Love, Lies, and Laura Spencer
Love, Lies, and Laura Spencer
Chapters 1 - 5
I was out cold for a few seconds. I saw, with perfect clairity, the scene at
Wyndemere, although I don't know how.
"Nikolas, I need to speak with you."
"What is it, Uncle?"
"Don't call me Uncle. Laura's back in town and she's decided to stop living
this charade." Stefan sighed.
"What are you talking about?"
"We have no right to keep you here. Go home."
"I don't understand! Stop speaking in sentences with hidden meanings and
explain yourself!" Nikolas cried in exasperation.
"You are not a Cassadine. Go home to your family." Nikolas just stared at
"What do you mean? Stavros is my father. I am a Cassadine."
"It was a trick!" Stefan shouted, his voice echoing through the dark halls.
"Laura and I tricked Stavros and Helena into thinking that you were his child.
Otherwise Helena would have killed you at birth or forced Laura to have an
"Who is my father?"
"We weren't sure for a long time, but now we know." Stefan stopped, unable
to go on.
"Well?" Nikolas cried.
"Luke." Stefan replied, sounding as if uttering the word had killed him.
Nikolas stared at Stefan for a long time. Then, without a word, he turned and fled
"Laura! Laura!" Scott gently slapped my face. He slowly came back into
"What happened?" I asked.
"You fainted." he replied, looking at her in concern. "Are you OK?"
"Yeah. I'm fine. I was just dizzy. Thanks." I slowly took a deep breath and let it
out shakily, knowing full well what had caused my fainting spell.
"Are you sure you're OK? You, you look kinda shaky."
"I'm all right. Don't worry. I need to be getting home anyway."
"OK. I need to pick up some things for Serena and some apples anyway."
Scott turned to leave.
"Wait. Um, if Lucky shows up at your place, send him home."
"Why would he show up at my place?"
"He found out about," Laura sighed. "About the thing at the Campus Disco."
"You're kidding." I shook my head. He sighed. "OK, well, if he shows up, I'll
send him home without any information."
"Thanks." I smiled and walked out of the park.
Nikolas looked down sadly at the ring he had worn for sixteen years. He had
never taken it off before. He sat on the docks, staring into space, absentmindedly
twirling the ring in his hands. A strange reflection caught his eye. There was an
inscription on the inside of the ring. Nikolas had never noticed it before. Holding
the ring up to the dim light of the streetlamp, he squinted in an effort to read it.
"L- La- Laura an, Laura and , L, Laura and Luke Forever?" Nikolas cried. He
stared at the simple gold band, slowly realizing that this was my wedding ring.
Helena had probably stolen it and given it to him to make Stefan mad. Feeling
sick, he threw it behind him.
"Drop something, Cassadine?" Lucky snarled, angrily. He tossed the ring
back at his brother.
"Oh, shut up, Lucky," Nikolas snapped back. "I don't want this. Here, take it
and give it to Laura."
"Why? Does it have a listening device inside." Lucky retorted. Nikolas half-
"Probably. I've been wearing that d**n ring for sixteen years. I was told it was
a family heirloom or something. Stupid me, I forgot to ask which family."
"What are you talking about?" Lucky demanded, wondering whether Nikolas
knew the truth. Nikolas handed him the ring.
"Look at the inscription on the inside. I just noticed it."
"What the- Laura and Luke Forever? Is this Mom's wedding ring?"
"I assume so." Nikolas sighed, looking at his younger brother. "Lucky, there's
something you should know."
"What is it now? I've had almost all of the family secrets I can take for one
day!" Lucky tossed the ring into the water, alarming Nikolas.
"Stavros is not my father. He never was. Stefan and Laura tricked him and
Helena into thinking that in order to save my life. They recently found out that Luke
is my father."
"Recently? Who else could have- Oh God." Lucky turned away in disgust,
realizing that Stefan thought he was Nikolas' father.
"Wait, you knew?" Nikolas demanded, outraged.
"Chill out. I've known for about ten minutes. Are you sure that Stefan wasn't
being decieved by Mom for all of these years?"
"Actually, I'm not. But why?"
"I think you're the reason that my - our - parents got married." I did everything I
could not to cry out in shock from my hiding place behind some bushes.
"Luke, I need to talk to you now." I said, walking quickly into the house.
"When were you planning on telling me?" Luke asked.
"Telling you what?"
"Stefan dropped by to see Nikolas. Then he explained why he thought
Nikolas was here."
"Luke, I tried to tell you, but I got sidetracked with the thing with Lucky and-
Wait. Stefan told you?"
"Great. I am having the worst day!" I replied, rubbing my forehead. I felt dizzy
again, but I sat down before Luke could notice.
"Laura, who else knows?"
"Stefan, Nikolas, Lucky-"
"You told Lucky?"
"He asked me straightout. I don't lie to my children."
"No, of course not. Just to me, right?" I flew from my seat.
"Luke, I love you more than anything, but I couldn't tell you!" I cried
passionately. Lulu began to cry upstairs. I sighed and started towards the stairs.
Then everything went black.
"Good morning, star shine." I opened my heavy eyelids.
"Morning? Is it over, Rosa?" I asked.
"Yes. Laura Spencer is no more. Your funeral is this afternoon." Rosa bit her
lip. "May I ask you why you did this? You had a darling daughter and son, a doting
husband, a community of people who love you-"
"Let's just say I had my reasons."
"So what are you going to do now? I mean, your appointment with Doctor
VonHauser is at two and a few months later, you'll be a completely diffferent
person. Where are you going?"
"I love my husband and my children dearly; I have to see them. My reasons
are only valid for Laura Spencer, with her past, with her life. For someone without
a past, with a new life, it's idyllic."
"So you're going back under a new identity to be with those you left behind?"
"Rosa, if you had been through what I've been through, I don't doubt for a
second that you would make the same choice." Rosa just shook her head.
