"Lu, come here a sec," Luke called after Lisa and Little Luke had gone to bed.
"Hold on Daddy, I'm giving Lor a sedative." Lu went upstairs and quietly opened the door. Loren jumped out of her skin.
"Lu," Loren whispered.
"Here sweetie. This'll help you sleep. Now, Lisa and Little Lukey are staying here, but I'll lock your door so they can't disturb you, OK?" Loren nodded. Lu turned off the lights and closed the door.
"Lu." She nearly screamed.
"Daddy! Don't sneak up on me like that!"
"Where'd you learn to shoot like that and why'd you have a gun in your purse?" Lu tunred her back towards her father and closed her eyes.

"Hmm?" Lu replied absently as she searched for a reasonable answer. Luke looked at his daughter suspiciously.
"I asked you where a twenty-one year old learns to shoot like that. You hit that guy, a moving target holding another moving person, perfectly hitting him where it wouldn't kill him. Now, that ain't luck, darlin'. I don't think I could've made that shot." Lu gave up any hopes of a reasonable asnwer.
"I can't tell you," she sighed.
"What do you mean you can't tell me?'
"Daddy, I'm tired and I'm going to sleep. I can't tell you and that is all there is to it. Now, keep everyone but me, Mom, and Liz away from Lor, OK? Goodnight Daddy." Lu kissed Luke on the cheek and went into her room, leaving Luke alone in the hall.

"Elizabeth? Liz? Wake up! Wake up! Elizabeth!" Lucky cried trying to free Liz from her nightmare.
He grabbed her wrists, knowing that she'd flail wildly upon awakening. Half awake, she struggled against his grasp.
"Liz! It's me! Elizabeth, it's Lucky." Liz stared as she realized where she was. He dropped her wrists and both of her hands flew to her mouth.
"Oh, Lucky! It's starting again!" she whispered, crying on his chest.
"Shh, it's OK. He can't hurt you anymore."
"It was him! I know it was him. I should have gone to the police as soon as- it's my fault that Loren was almost- oh God!"
"It is not yor fault! You did nothing wrong. Loren did nothing wrong! The only person who was wrong was that sicko." Lucky replied angrily, trying not to think about what that man had done to his wife.
"I keep telling myself that, but it keeps coming back. Something I could have done, I should have done." Liz wiped away her tears.
"Liz, no one could have done something in that situation unless it was someone like Lu who happened to be in the right place at the right time." Lucky could see that Liz was calming down.
"Or someone who found her and took her home with him and helped ger until she was strong enough to trust again." Lucky smiled and kissed her on the forehead.
"Love you too. Try and get some sleep." Lucky looked at his wife as she pulled the covers closer, his eyes a mixture of adoration, conern, and a once dormant revenge returning to him.
